"We have the potential to compete for two titles," stated Danny Rohl, reflecting on his ambitions after Bojan Miovski's impressive hat-trick propelled a revamped Rangers team to a resounding 5-0 victory over Annan Athletic in the Scottish Cup at Ibrox.
The North Macedonian striker opened the scoring by putting the hosts in a dominant position with two goals, and Kieran Dowell further extended the lead with a third goal shortly after halftime. Miovski then completed his hat-trick by converting a penalty kick, while substitute Thelo Aasgaard rounded off the match with a stunning free-kick that capped the team's commanding performance.
Since taking over from Russell Martin, Rohl has dramatically transformed Rangers' fortunes, lifting them to third in the league standings, currently trailing Celtic only on goal difference, but sitting six points behind the league leaders, Hearts.
"I genuinely believe we can aim for two titles right now; that’s our goal," Rohl expressed. "In cup competitions, the path to the final requires fewer victories, making it an excellent opportunity for us to push forward. There’s a strong desire within the squad at this moment. Following our win against Aberdeen, I sensed a fantastic atmosphere in the dressing room, which was a massive statement.
Rohl also hinted that Rangers might not yet be finished with their January transfer dealings, following the introduction of new signings Tochi Chukwuani, Andreas Skov Olsen, and Tuur Rommens to the fans at Ibrox. All three players were welcomed by supporters before the impressive Scottish Cup triumph against Annan Athletic, with midfielder Chukwuani even making a brief appearance as a substitute.
"I’m thrilled to have all three new signings here so early in the window," Rohl remarked during an interview with BBC Scotland. "We still have a few days left in the transfer window. Andreas Skov Olsen adds valuable experience to our squad. He brings a different dynamic to our right side, especially with his left foot. We have a clear strategy in mind regarding our plans. However, in this market, timing is crucial, and we'll see what else we can achieve.
Newly acquired winger Skov Olsen emphasized his intent to make an impact, stating that he aims to contribute significantly to the team and hopes to celebrate trophy wins by the end of the season. The Denmark international has joined Rangers on loan from Wolfsburg until the season concludes, with the club retaining the option to make the deal permanent come summer.
At 26 years old, Skov Olsen has had limited playing time, featuring in just 10 games for the Bundesliga side since his transfer from Club Brugge last summer. He previously enjoyed a standout spell in Belgium, netting 49 goals and providing 30 assists across 124 appearances. In an interview with BBC Sport Scotland, Skov Olsen shared his aspirations of rediscovering that form at Ibrox.
"I hope to add strength to the attack, aiming to score and assist my teammates," he said. "Fans should expect me to be aggressive in my play, whether that means cutting inside or going wide. I’ll shoot and create opportunities for others. I’ll keep pushing forward, even if I lose possession. That’s the energy I will bring.
"This is an exciting time for me, but we must focus on one match at a time, starting with our next game. Ideally, we will end the season with some silverware."
Before moving to Club Brugge, Skov Olsen played for Nordsjaelland in Denmark and Bologna in Italy's Serie A. He mentioned that he had spoken to several individuals about Rangers, including current players he had previously played alongside in Denmark.
"I know some of the guys from Nordsjaelland, like Oliver Antman, our new signing Tochi Chukwuani, and Dio (Mohamed Diomande). It was wonderful to reconnect with them after so many years. I communicated with Antman through a mutual friend, and I've heard great things about the club from various sources."
But here's where it gets controversial: Can a club with such high expectations truly manage to balance ambition with the pressures of the league? What are your thoughts on the Rangers' chances this season? Do you believe they can secure more titles? Share your opinions in the comments!
